A Huge Breakthrough for On-Chain Socials as Universal Profiles Get a Follower System.

This week the LUKSO team launched a follower system for Universal Profiles! This means you can now give and receive follows directly in your wallet/account and take them wherever you go.

The LSP26 Follower System is a network-wide feature for Universal Profiles on LUKSO. This global smart contract registry can be seamlessly integrated into any dApp, enabling addresses to follow one another. So not only can you perform this function inside your account, any dApp can access the information and immediately integrate the same system.

We have already seen this happen twice, with Universal Swaps, LUKSO’s main DEX, and UFeed, a social posting feed for Universal Profiles. Because I have 100 followers in my Universal Profile, even if its my first time logging into either of these dApps, I immediately have my 100 followers there too.

This opens the opportunity for personalized feeds within dApps and new forms of protocols, where following an address can trigger specific actions defined by the protocol.

A community member has also made a leaderboard of follows, so you can see who else is gaining traction. Here you can also do batch follows.

Universal Profiles

Fabian Vogelsteller Discusses ICP, The Grid, Story Protocol, and Universal Profiles.

Ethalorian and Fabian sat down for a discussion this past week on various topics revolving around Story Protocol, the Universal Profile follower system, ICP and its compatibility with the ERC 725 account, and THE GRID.

THE GRID is a new social feature for Universal Profiles looking to be released in the next coming months. The idea is essentially a wall (think Tumblr or MySpace) directly in your Universal Profile. Add all sorts of widgets, links, images etc, to a homepage wall on your Universal Profiles.

This combined with the follower system and a UFeed plug in begins to show the true power of decentralized social media and smart accounts like Universal Profiles.
